March 31 – Music, Mind, and Mood: Using Intention to Take Music Beyond Entertainment

Description: Many people use music in their everyday lives to motivate, soothe, distract, or energize themselves, but is there a way we can maximize these effects? This workshop will engage participants in a discussion of the idea of adding intention behind music to enhance its effects and potential impact. Participants will leave the workshop with a tool they can utilize in their daily lives and additional strategies will be covered for participants of all musical levels from avid listeners to gigging musicians.

About the Presenter

Cody Ray is a neurologic music therapist and researcher at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and CAMH respectively. Cody completed his MA in Music and Health Science at UofT in 2021 and completed his BA in Music Therapy at Drury University in Springfield, MO. Before moving to Toronto, Cody worked as a music therapist in the U.S. with adults in psychiatric care as well as youth with neurologic impairments and mental health diagnoses.
